If using Freedom Pay for payment processing, there is a feature that FreedomPay provides that allows you to adjust a captured tip entry on a payment which was authorized and then captured. If using the Charge payment method or SALE (how it would be recorded in FreedomPay) tip adjustments are not possible.
For example if a guest leaves you a $12 tip and you or a staff member inadvertently misses a character, say $2 instead of $12, you can adjust the tip amount on that payment.
Permission Requirements: AdjustTip
In the FreedomPay Portal an authorization and capture from TRAY would be recorded as such. If a tip adjustment occurs, the records in the FreedomPay portal would be recorded as:
- Authorization
- Capture
- Incremental authorization (The tip adjustment)
- Capture
Tip Adjustments:
- Login into the Point of Sale.
- Locate a check that has been paid but the tip amount has not yet been entered.
- Once the authorization is completed, there will be three options:
- Void - Cancel this authorization
- Pay - Capture the payment, and enter an optional tip amount
- Print - Reprint the authorization receipt
- Press the Pay button and enter the amount the customer tipped for the payment and press the green ACCEPT button.
- Once the tip is applied the payment will now be captured and be reflect as shown below. If the check balance was met by capturing this payment the check will now be closed and you will have to reopen it to see the options below:
- Adjust tip - Press this to alter the tip amount that was entered
- Refund - Press this refund the applicable payment or tip amount (must be entered separately)
- After hitting the green "ACCEPT" button the tip amount will adjust accordingly and the payment will be re-captured.
