Gift Cards are products configured to function with an existing gift card integration. These products are configured similarly to standard products, but there is a specific tab in the product UI dedicated to Gift Card configurations. For reporting purposes, gift card item sales are not included in the Net Sales total, along with Service Charges and Donations.
NOTE: Gift Card functionality requires an integration with one of the TRAY supported Gift Card integrators.
Within a site or node, navigate to the appropriate menu section, and press "Add Product".
Give the product a Name, a Price, and a unique PLU (recommended). Generally speaking, Gift Cards are assigned to their own Category.
Next, navigate to the "Gift Cards" tab in the product window. Selecting from these drop-down menus will display the applicable gift card integrations and gift card types which can be configured so that the product will behave appropriately on the POS.
- From the "Gift Card" menu, select the Gift Card provider you are using.
- From the "Type" menu, select "Issue"
- In the "Value" field type in the value of the gift card product.
Click the black "Save" button to finalize the settings. Make sure to Publish the menu to see any changes on the POS.
Price vs Value
Note that the "Price" field in the Product tab is independent from the "Value" field in the Gift Card tab. Generally, these fields should be entered with the same number. If there is a situation where, for example, a $25 gift card is being sold for only $20, this can be done by setting the Price to 20.00 and the Value to 25. The result is that the guest will only need to pay $20 for a gift card that will be loaded with $25 in funds.
Open $ Gift Card
A common use case for gift cards is to have an open field in which the price can be determined at the time of sale, rather than only have pre-defined prices and values. To do this, follow all the same steps as above, and make the following additions/changes:
- Under the Product tab, set the Price field to "1"
- Under the Product tab, Edit the "Product Configs" to apply the "Open Item" configuration and save.
- Under the Gift Card tab, set the Value field also to "1"
Types of Gift Cards
There are several types of gift card products which can be configured:
- Issue - This type of product will allow you to activate an inactive gift card and apply funds to it.
- Reload - This type of product will allow you to add additional funds to an already active gift card.

Wipe - This type of product specifically will enable you to wipe the funds off of an existing gift card in the case that you would like to reuse this card.
- Cash Out - while not specific to configuration of gift card products, the Cash Out No Sale function will remove the existing value of the gift card and record a negative No Sale record to account for paying out the balance of a gift card to a guest in cash

Bonus Cards - Only supported by the SVS integration, this cards will be used to apply a discount amount to the check for the eligible value of the card.
- Minimum Spend - Bonus cards specifically have an additional configuration (which is optional) which requires that prior to being able to add a bonus card product to the cart, that the pre-requisite dollar amount of Gift Card Issue products be in the cart as well. (Must have $25 dollars worth of gift cards in the cart in order to add a Bonus Card product to the cart as well)
