Menu Categories allow you to group menu items together for taxation, reporting, and order routing purposes. Categories can be created at the site level, imported from another site (using the Import Category button), or pushed down to a site from the node.
In order to access Categories from your site, select the "Menu" section on the left-hand side, then select "Categories" and then "Categories" will be the default tab.
Permission Requirements: View Category, Add Category, Edit Category, Delete Category
Categories Tab
The Categories Tab displays the current categories available for your site.

| DB ID | The numerical database identifier for a category. |
| EID | The numerical enterprise identifier for a category. |
| NAME | The name of the category. |
| TAX RATE | Legacy functionality. |
| TAX TYPE | Legacy functionality. |
| AGE RESTRICTION | The age applicable to the age restriction for a category. |
| ACTIONS (Edit/Delete) | Edit/Delete if the user has the appropriate permission. |
There are also 4 blue buttons in the top right that are detailed below.
Reorder Category
The order that the Categories are displayed on the Categories Tab is customizable but clicking on the blue "Reorder Categories" button in the upper right. To reorder your Categories, simply drag and drop a category to create your custom list, then click the "Update" button.
Import Category
If you have a preexisting site that already has the categories set up to your liking, you can import them to a new site by clicking the "Import Category" button.

Add Category
From the Categories Tab, you have the ability to Edit or Delete an existing Category by clicking on the appropriate link or you can add a new Category by clicking on the blue "Add Category" button in the upper right.
Add Category Fields

| NAME | Enter the name for the category. |
| MAIN | Main categories can be built here and chosen from a dropdown. This groups certain categories together for consolidation on some reports. This field does not exist at the Node level yet. |
| EID | Unique identifier used for enterprise management. |
| CHECK BUTTON | Clicking the Check button verifies that the EID is not currently assigned to another Category. |
| TAX RATE | Legacy Field. Reference the Taxes (HQ) article to use the new taxation framework. |

| AGE RESTRICTION | If you are using Age Restrictions, enter the applicable age as a numerical value in this field. This will trigger the Age Restriction Message to display on kiosks for the applicable categories. |
| ALERT | If guest control is used on the POS, each guest will need an item from this category added to the cart, otherwise an alert will be displayed, and the system will not allow you to fire the order. |
| BARCODE PLU/SKU | Used for Category based barcodes. Barcodes contain PLU + the sum of items with this category. |
Add Age Restriction
Some food or drinks require guests to be of a certain age to purchase. You can create categories for such items and enter the applicable age for those items so the staff can verify the user’s age before fulfilling their order. To facilitate this, you must first add an age restriction message by clicking the blue "Add Age Restriction" button and entering the message. Once you have entered the appropriate message, click the "Save" button. If a Category has an age entered in the Age Restriction field, the message entered will display on the kiosk for items in that Category.
Once the information has been added or updated, you will need to Publish the information by using the blue “Publish” button at the top of the screen. Choose “Menus” and then click the black “Publish” button.
