TRAY POS now offers an Offline Mode. Offline mode allows the system to operate over your Local Area Network (LAN) in the case of an internet, or server outage. Any external functions that would need to reach out to other platforms would not be available during this time, such as (but not limited to):
- Credit card transactions
- Gift Card transactions
- Web based/online ordering
- Loyalty integrations
- Any 3rd party integrations that communicate over API
The system will be able to operate normally with cash or other custom tender types. You can still place orders and fire them to your Kitchen devices
**Offline mode is not intended to be a solution for poor internet. As a cloud based POS, it is imperative that you have a stable internet connection for proper performance. It is not recommended to run in offline mode for long periods of time **
Offline Support
Offline mode can only be toggled on or off if offline support is enabled. Please reach out to your system administrator for questions on enabling offline support
If you see a green dot in the top right corner of your screen like in any of the images above, offline support has been enabled for your location. The green dot also indicates that your system is currently online. If the dot is red then your system is currently offline. When the system is offline, the devices are unable to communicate with the TRAY cloud server, meaning that until your system is back online none of your reporting will update, and none of the changes that you publish from TRAY HQ will be applied to the devices
In order for the TRAY devices to communicate with each other, the devices need to be on the same network. If your devices are hardwired to a network switch, or communicate wirelessly via a router or access point, they will be able to communicate with each other in offline mode as long as they are on the same subnet. If there is a failure with your networking equipment, i.e. your network switch or router fails, your devices will not be able to function in offline mode
Offline Mode
When offline mode is active, your devices will display a red dot in the top right corner like the images above. Additionally, when you log into the POS, any new checks you start will display a much longer alphanumeric check ID as well as an indicator stating that this check has not yet synced. This will also be visible in the checks tab next to each check (open or closed)
**Please note that the system will run slower while in offline mode. This is expected behavior**
Once the system is back online, the cached functions (checks, time entries, no sales, etc.) will then sync with the server. The alphanumeric check ID will change to an actual check number, and will now be visible on the reports. Any checks still open that need credit or gift payments applied can now be manually entered if the guest is no longer present. Please ensure that all devices have returned to online status by checking for the green dot in the top right corner of the screen
