ELO MSR Configuration

Overview

ELO MSR are produced by MagTek readers ship in Keyboard mode by default. In this mode, they cannot function properly as magnetic stripe readers (MSRs) for gift cards or employee swipe cards.
To ensure proper functionality, the reader must be switched to HID mode and configured correctly within TRAY and Esper.

Follow the steps below to complete the setup.

Configuration Steps

1. Enable the ELO Peripheral Test App in Esper

• In Esper, set the device to show the “ELO Peripheral Test App”.

• Important: Do not enable the “Refresh Test App.”

2. Remote Into the POS Device

• Connect remotely to the POS.

• In the ELO Peripheral Test App, switch the reader mode from Keyboard → HID.

3. Grant USB Permissions

• When prompted, accept both USB permission requests for the ELO Peripheral Test App to access the USB swipe reader.

4. Verify Device Group in TRAY HQ

• In TRAY HQ, confirm the ELO devices are assigned to the POS (ELO) device group.

5. Confirm Reader Configuration

• In the POS (ELO) device group settings, verify that the reader type is set to “Magtek eDynamo.”

6. Launch the TRAY App

• Open the TRAY app on the POS.

• Accept the USB permission when prompted for the MagTek reader.

7. Hide the ELO Peripheral Test App in Esper

• Once configuration is complete, hide the ELO Peripheral Test App again to prevent users from accessing it.

8. Reboot the POS

• Restart the POS device to apply the configuration changes.
